In an order from Avon I received two samples, one lotion and the other body wash. It's a new line from Avon called “Ocean Planet”. Taking a closer look I read, “Ocean Algae” on one and “Ocean Kelp” on the other. I know that in today’s world, body care cosmetics are always changing, and that there are new and crazy breakthroughs in ways to keep you feeling angel fucking soft. But rubbing dead ocean plant life into my skin is where I draw the line. This isn’t a Save the Kelp and Algae rant, because I don’t really care about that. And I know algae and kelp have been used in cosmetics before, but did they have to put it so bluntly? No really, I want to bathe in the dirt of the ocean next to the oil covered seagull and the dolphin stuck in the fishermen’s net. Let me exfoliate on your coral reef and eat your fish’s eggs. And this is why Avon has crossed the line. Even though this may not be as disturbing as rubbing the oil of an emu in your body. Maybe this summer I’ll bottle and sell White Lake Algae.
